Clinical Use

Until now, it has been difficult or impossible to monitor exhaled tidal volumes accurately when a patient is on a continuous flow circuit such as IMV, T-piece, CPAP or Bain.

Our Isolation Valve permits such monitoring with ease and is very popular for metabolic cart use. Many metabolic evaluation systems now specify this valve.

Warning

Do not connect valve to any circuit without a pop-off or pressure relief device. Direct connection to a fresh gas flow meter can result in high circuit pressures against which patient cannot exhale. Monitor spirometer when attaching valve to see that exhalation is occurring.

Description

The Isolation Valve attaches directly to the endotracheal tube or tracheostomy tube. The fresh gas supply (IMV circuit, T-piece, etc.) attaches to the isolation valve so the patient is breathing through the isolation valve.

Our Isolation Valve directs the patient's exhaled gas, and only the patient's exhaled gas, through the outlet port where it should be monitored by our Mechanical Spirometer or equivalent instrumentation.
