Clinical Use

The Intermitting suction Regulator may be used as an adjunct to suction therapy, where alternate suction and release of vacuum are indicated to promote drainage. By switching modes from OFF to CONSTANT, normal Regulator function with excellent control of vacuum is available immediately. In INTERMITTENT, alternate suction and venting are provided automatically. With the collection unit mounted above the patient, large venting ports in the Intermittor periodically reverse the flow in the catheter, to assist in clearing catheter ports.

Description

Boehringer Laboratories’ Intermitting Suction Regulator is an accurate, rugged unit which is cost effective to purchase and maintain. Our design uses half as many parts as the competition. With fewer parts, reliability increases and cost decreases. The Intermitting Suction Regulator’s virtually all-metal construction will withstand abuse and promptly pay for itself in maintenance cost.

Boehringer Laboratories’ Intermitting Suction Regulator gives the clinician the advantage of intermitting suction capability in one compact body. It is a true intermittor, supplying vacuum and atmospheric pressure alternately, and incorporates the large flow ports which have made Boehringer Regulators outstanding for vacuum regulation under high flow conditions. These same large ports also give very rapid atmospheric venting for clearing the catheter. No unit that we are aware of has more than half the capacity for intermittent suction and venting as the Boehringer Model #7702L Lightweight Intermitting Suction Regulator.

The large diaphram-actuated slide valve provides a unit that is tolerant of water, sputum and blood, in case of canister overflow. In most cases, water purging will be all that is required to reestablish operation. An externally replaceable hydrophobic filter protects the timing valve, in cases of severe flooding with blood and sputum.

Concern about cross contamination and infection control has led us to design Suction Regulators which are totally sterilizable. The Model #7702L Lightweight Intermitting Suction Regulator can be disassembled and reassembled for cleaning and sterilization in minutes. The units can be sterilized by gas, steam autoclave, Cidex, or pasteurization without damage.

Our intermitting Suction Regulator features a body designed to save weight. Weighing just 2.44 pounds, the Regulator’s virtually all-metal construction will withstand abuse and promptly pay for itself in maintenance cost.
